  2.                      Using the Dictionary Merger Program
  3.  
  4. This program allows you to add the words in one Spellswell dictionary to another Spellswell dictionary.

  6. The Dictionary Merger needs lots of disk space. In an extreme case, the new dictionary created by the merge program could be twice as large as the original dictionary. The actual growth you experience will depend on how many words are added to your destination dictionary.

  8. Use the Dictionary Merger program on backup copies only. The Dictionary Merger needs lots of memory, so do not use the Dictionary Merger with MultiFinder.

  10. Merging two dictionaries can be a slow process.  It could take several hours to merge the source dictionary into the destination dictionary. Merging FROM a smaller dictionary TO a larger dictionary reduces the merging time.

  12. 1. First set up your merge disks using the suggested configurations below.

  14. Suggested Configurations:

  16. Configuration A. (Single Internal 400 or 800K Drive)
  17. Disk #1 contains:System Folder,Dictionary Merger,Source dictionary
  18. Disk #2 contains:Destination dictionary
  19. (**This configuration could require you to swap disks periodically for several hours!! Not recommended. Borrow a second disk drive if you have to.)

  21. Configuration B. (Internal 400K Drive and external  400 or 800K Drive)
  22. Disk #1 contains:System Folder,Dictionary Merger,Source dictionary
  23. Disk #2 contains:Destination dictionary

  25. Configuration C. (Internal 800K Drive and external 800K Drive)
  26. Disk #1 contains:System Folder,Dictionary Merger,Source dictionary
  27. Disk #2 contains:Destination dictionary

  29. Configuration D. (Internal 400 or 800K Drive and Hard Disk)
  30. Hard Disk contains: Transfer all files to the hard disk.

  32. Configuration E. (Internal 400 or 800K Drive and Ram disk)
  33. If you have a Mac plus or a 512 with one meg. or more of RAM and have a ram disk program: 
  34. Disk #1 contains:System Folder,Dictionary Merger,Source dictionary
  35. 600K(Minimum) Ram Disk contains:Destination dictionary

  38. 2. Double click on the Dictionary Merger icon.  When the title page appears click once.
  39.  
  40. 3. You will now be presented with a document selector asking you to open the Destination dictionary. This is the dictionary you will be adding the words to.  Find the dictionary you want to add the words to (larger), highlight it, then click on the open button.

  42. 4. Now you will be presented with another document selector asking for the Source dictionary. This is the dictionary you will get the new words from. Highlight the dictionary and click on the open button.

  44. 5. The program will now present you with the option of continuing the process or canceling.  If you click on the "Start Merge" button the merging process will begin.

  46. 6. After 10 pages have been merged the "time to go" will change to a close approximate of the true time it will take to complete the merger.  If it shows a very long time, don't worry, you only need to do this once!  You have the option to cancel the merge at any time by pressing Command period(.).  Additions made to this point will be saved.
